- Dr. Rowland Hutchinson, former Dean of
the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, became the 78th
President of the Association. Here are some concerns he voiced which
should be of interest to PreDental
students:
- Vacant Faculty Positions*:
"We have between 300 and 400 budgeted, unfilled faculty
positions in U.S. Dental Schools. This is not only approaching a
crisis, it is a crisis, and must be a priority in the coming
year." ...more
information
- Declining Number of Dental School
Applicants**:
"It is our responsibility to provide sufficient numbers of
well-trained practitioners to care for the oral health needs of our
nation."

Notes: This shouldn't alarm PreDental
students. --With such incredible
private practice opportunities, many students haven't stopped to
consider the positive attributes of the dental education career option.
ADEA and all dental schools are working hard to address this issue.

Notes: While the number of applicants has decreased over the last
few years, the quality of the entering classes has not been
compromised.
